BRIEF ACTIVITIES OF DISTRICT EMPLOYMENT EXCHANGE, SAMBALPUR FOR THE YEAR 2003-2004.

Introduction:

The activities of Employment Exchange can broadly be divided into three categories i.e. Placement activities, Vocational Guidance activities and Employment Market Information activities.

(1 ) Placement Activities:

Placement activities include Registration of the names of eligible job- seekers as per the instruction of Govt. communicated vide letter No. 6867 dated 23.6.88 of Labour and Employment Deptt. Govt.of Orissa and such other instructions received from time to time. The candidates registered in the Employment Exchange are also sponsored against vacancies notified to the Employment Exchange as per rule. The result of selection are also collected from the employers and the names of also such candidates are deleted from the Live Register of the Exchange. ( 2) Vocational Guidance Activities:

The Employment Exchange also promotes Vocational Guidance activities to create career consciousness among students. The details of such activities for the last two years are given below:

 

(i)     Students Information Bureau/ Model Career Corner:-

A Student Information Bureau is functioning at G.M. College, Sambalpur since 4.9.97 and two Model Career Corners are functioning, i.e. one at Govt. Women’s College, Sambalpur and the other at Municipal Girl’s High School, Sambalpur since 5.1.99 and 4.1.99 respectively.

The objective of these centers is to create career awareness among students, The District Employment Exchange, Sambalpur provides Career books, Periodicals , Competitive Magazine , Newspapers etc to these centers for use of the students. Moreover regular class are being taken by the Resource Persons invited from different fields to make student career conscious. A Senior teacher of the Institution is nominated by the concerned Principal/Headmistress to act as the co-ordinator of the Centre to monitor all such activities.

(ii)   Career Conference:-

The Career Conference conducted by the District Employment Exchange, Sambalpur during the last two years are given below: The objective is to make the students aware of the career prospects available in different fields.

(iii)    Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp.

(iv)   Industrial Visit:

(vii) Group Discussion:

A Group Discussion was conducted by the District Employment Exchange, Sambalpur on 24.1.2005 with the students of Women’s College, Sambalpur to help them develop their leadership quality. Dr. P.C. Tripathy, Reader, Deptt. of Business Administration, Sambalpur University was moderator for the Group Discussion.

 

(viii) Army Recruitment Rally:-

The District Employment Exchange, Sambalpur co-ordinates the Army recruitment with the support of the District Administration. It also gives wide publicity through all the district Employment Officer/Employment Officers of Northern Zone for benefit of interested jobseekers so that they could avail the opportunity. EMPLOYMENT MARKET INFORMATION:

 

An Employment Market Information unit is functioning in the District Employment Exchange, Sambalpur which collects useful information from different Employers of the district through ER-I and ER-II returns as per the provisions of Employment Exchange Compulsory Notification of Vacancies Act-1959 and such data are finally utilised for the purpose of manpower planning. A total no. of 427 employers are available at present in the Employer’s Register details of which are given below.
